The State of Black California event series kicked off in San Diego on Juneteenth weekend with a community conversation at Will C. Crawford High School in the Mid-City neighborhood of El Cerrito. More than 85 local leaders, residents, and dignitaries were wlecomed by the event’s host, current Senator Dr. Akilah Weber Pierson (SD 39), who, at the time the event represented the 79th Assembly District.
