Black Freedom Fund is heartbroken by the mass shooting that took place in Stockton on November 29, taking the lives of four community members, including three children, and leaving many more injured and traumatized. There are no words that can fully hold the grief of families who sent their babies to a child’s birthday party and did not get to bring them home.
We extend our deepest love and solidarity to the families who lost loved ones, to those recovering from physical and emotional trauma, and to the entire Stockton community as it begins the long journey toward healing.
This violence is devastating, and it is a reminder of the urgent need to invest in community-rooted solutions that strengthen safety, well-being, and opportunity. Every community deserves the resources necessary to heal and to thrive.
In response to this tragedy, Black Freedom Fund is proud to invest in the Heal Stockton Fund, a newly launched Fund led by Sierra Health Foundation, San Joaquin Community Foundation, and Reinvent Stockton Foundation, to provide immediate and long-term support to individuals, families, organizations, and communities directly impacted by the tragedy.
The Heal Stockton Fund will resource urgent needs such as food security, relocation and rental relief, mental health services and trauma-informed care, medical care navigation and expense relief, legal assistance, and other critical supports identified by community partners on the ground.
Black Freedom Fund is committed to supporting communities in moments of crisis and in the work of long-term transformation. We encourage those looking for meaningful ways to help families and organizations impacted by this tragedy to learn more or contribute to the Heal Stockton Fund by visiting https://www.reinventstockton.org/heal-stockton/
To the people of Stockton: We stand with you. We mourn with you. And we remain dedicated to resourcing those working every day to build a future where all of our communities are safe, healthy, and whole.
