We believe those closest to the issues impacting our communities know best how to solve them.
That’s why we invest in visionary leaders and grassroots organizations, advancing community-led and centered agendas to secure a future where all Black people thrive.
Our Approach to Strengthening the Black Power-Building Ecosystem
Black Freedom Fund scaffolds support at three levels–leaders, organizations, networks–to advance solutions to the issues most impacting Black communities.
Our deep understanding of the issues, relationships with organizers on the ground, and knowledge of the Black power-building landscape provides a unique perspective that enables strategic grantmaking that catalyzes change.
For generations, Black-serving organizations have been on the leading edge of making change in our communities and statewide, yet too often, do not have access to traditional philanthropy. Our investments prioritize courageous and visionary grassroots organizations driving impact and building power.
Our Grantmaking
- Build movement infrastructure through investments in anchor networks and burgeoning local centers of Black power-building
- Fuel community organizing through direct funding and capacity building for organizations
